On Friday morning last week Kathryn asked me for a cookie. I told her that we didn't have any cookies so she couldn't have one. Later that day she asked again for a cookie. I gave her the same response and said that tomorrow she and Daddy could probably make some because he didn't have to work that day (and I didn't want to make cookies!). She accepted that and went on with her day. She and I were getting supper ready and she was talking about this and that and, wouldn't you know it, cookies. I think she was talking to herself, at least somewhat, when she said, "The answer is always no." Then she said, "The answer is always no, Mommy." I asked her to what the answer was always no, and she said, "To have cookies." I had to chuckle and then said, "I'm not opposed to you having cookies Kathryn, but we don't have any so you can't have them." On Saturday afternoon she and AJ made cookies!
Today as we were getting ready to go to our polling place Kathryn kept talking about wearing her life jacket so she wouldn't fall out. She was also talking about the cabin. We kept saying that we weren't going to the cabin and that she didn't need her life jacket. After this happened several times, I figured out that she thought that we were saying we were going to "boat" instead of going to "vote"! Then we said we were going to cast our ballots. She asked if she could "cast her ballot"; we told her that our ballots would count for her. As we were leaving the polling place she started talking about needing her life jacket again. She was quite disappointed that we weren't going to boat or to the pool. I think we'll go swimming at the YW soon!
