Rain Barrels!

Took a couple minutes to look up how to build rain barrels (since the premade ones are upwards of $150 each). We have several spots on our house where rainwater comes down in large quantities (because of valleys), and with a new, larger garage, the amount of space in our yard to soak up water is much less. Getting rain barrels installed will reduce our water consuption for watering plants, and reduce the amount of water runoff that goes into the storm sewers.

I found a couple promising links - the best one shows how to link multiple barrels together to increase the capacity. The local green guide article was also helpful, though not quite as detailed. Hopefully we'll be able to get a few of these made soon.

(Update) Found another rainwater barrel DIY page.
